Cable's out, tech can't come until morning, so I'm tethered and tonight we're gonna party like it's 1999 (internet speeds).

@mruizalba @JoeBuhlig Sure. I use @obsdmd for my notes, so everything is searchable and taggable. Resources is filled with book/podcast/article highlights. I use @readwiseio to sync my kindle to it. I also have notes with Dropbox links to external files like spreadsheets or images.
@HugoCast_ @mruizalba @obsdmd @readwiseio Can you elaborate on Resources vs Reference?
@HugoCast_ @JoeBuhlig @obsdmd @readwiseio How’s life with Obsidian? I have ended up using Evernote (again). I tried Notion but it did not work for me.
@mruizalba @HugoCast_ @obsdmd @readwiseio I’ve been growing more and more comfortable with it. I am a bit careful with how I format my notes, though. I still find myself opening them with Multimarkdown Composer and Sublime Text regularly. I want the flexibility.
@JoeBuhlig @HugoCast_ So my current PARA setup is:
0. Inbox
1. Projects
2. Life Resources
3. Archive
@mruizalba @HugoCast_ The key thing I noticed in this is “ongoing interest.” To me, that would be Reference and not an Area at all. I could see Health as an Area, though.
But that likely doesn’t help you. This is one of the difficult pieces of this system.
@HugoCast_ @JoeBuhlig Still not clear to me. Household finances is an ongoing area but the template I use to track those finances could be made public and be in Resources. Although this makes sense i don’t see it.
@mruizalba @HugoCast_ Can you expand this a bit? To me, the templates should go in Resources and used within the Areas.
@JoeBuhlig I still struggle to differentiate between areas and reference.
@mruizalba I’ve long had the mindset that areas are my intentional life segments that I work on and reference is supporting material that can be made public without problem.
@JoeBuhlig One of the best file manager tricks is adding numbers before fill names. I’ve also added a z_ to folders I always want at the bottom of a long list.
@stephenwmartin It’s so good. I used to use zz-archive to sink things to the bottom.
@JoeBuhlig If you ever have problem audio that you’d like to run through RX8 - feel free to hit me up. I can run it through and give you output to help you make that expensive purchasing decision! :)
@JoeBuhlig Not sure if you run Izotope for audio adjustments, but RX8 doesn't run on M1s…
@JJTwyford I don’t. But we’ve looked at it a couple times so that’s good to know. This machine won’t be doing any audio work in live scenarios.
@JoeBuhlig I was wondering if @BobbleheadJoe would win you over to this option when I heard y’all talking about it on @bookwormfm. Keep us posted.
@Solwrker @BobbleheadJoe @bookwormfm It had more to do with the need to move some video outputs off of an existing iMac and the Mini being cheap. 😆
Did the http://Apple.com live feed just shit the bed for anyone else? I’m over on YouTube now.
Focus! Totally game for more control over notifications. #WWDC21
Think about this being coupled with Shortcuts to trigger different modes! #WWDC21
@JoeBuhlig Interesting topic, but doesn’t the stream collide with the WWDC keynote?
@mjasinski It might a bit. Keynote is at 10 Pacific. I’m starting at 11 Pacific. So it may start late or I’ll just pull it up and finish the keynote on stream.
I’ve been reconsidering my use of TextExpander lately. Anyone have opinions on leaving it? Join me on stream today!

Very likely to share my thoughts on the Apple keynote at the beginning today as well. 👍
@JoeBuhlig The mutes-everything problem did bite me. I didn't realize you also meant OUTPUT devices, so it was also muting the virtual device that sent to my monitors. I did test with some other (newer) apps though, and most CAN selectively mute single devices.
@ttscoff That’s good to know! I haven’t taken time to test them yet. Will take a look at Mikrofon.
Ever put your watch on the other wrist?
Talk about weird.
@JoeBuhlig Makes sense, as it doesn't discriminate between usb devices either. Wonder if a different app would be more specific for you.
@ttscoff 🤷🏻♂️ Possibly. Haven’t done the research yet. But I’ve also recently set up a Rodecaster Pro. So I have the mute button there currently.
After spending hundreds of dollars finding a decent XLR mute switch (so many problems), it turns out I can just create a Loopback device and use Shush just like the good ol' USB mic days.
@ttscoff Tried this. The only downside I’ve found is that it mutes ALL virtual devices instead of just the one I want. Unless I’m missing a setting somewhere.
I love running “bundle update” by accident and then choosing to go with it. Excellent way to add two hours to a simple push. 🤷🏻♂️
@JoeBuhlig Congrats and I have to admit when we were looking broadband capability was one of the highest criteria, right up there with must have a roof 🤨
@JoeBuhlig Whaaaaat. You don't find high speed internet to be required? It's more or less a utility nowadays.
@davidjoelhall I know. I know. Weird. But the majority of the heavy internet use on my part is done at work. And my wife is far from a heavy user already. So it works out.
@JoeBuhlig Is the house you bought going to be your primary residence?
@JoeBuhlig Baffling that you bought a house without checking that!
@JoeBuhlig Honestly, that’s the first question I ask about any potential home. Now, the gate is: can I get fiber?
@timwindsor Yeah, that would be nice. But since my network needs are met at work, it’s technically not necessary.
We bought a house! 126 year old farmhouse on five acres! Hopefully, it’s not a headache. 🤞
@JoeBuhlig @OmniFocus Yeah. Wish there was one that did project and task level individually
@curtismchale @OmniFocus The original scripts worked on tasks. I know there are folks that use them both.
A plug-in for creating and maintaining a tag-based Kanban Board in OmniFocus. Based upon a creative concept and project by Serena (www.sleepyowl.ink) where the Kanban Board is OmniFocus tag-based and...
@JoeBuhlig @OmniFocus Are those scripts supposed to work at the project and single task level or is it only available for one at a time depending on which scripts you have installed?
@curtismchale @OmniFocus Mine work on a project level and operate on whatever project is selected.
@JoeBuhlig Wait @OmniFocus Kanban? Where do I see what you’re doing here? https://joebuhlig.com/using-an-elgato-stream-deck-with-omnifocus/
@curtismchale @OmniFocus Here are the scripts.

Learning a ton about this thing today. I’m discovering that the combination of this and Loopback by @RogueAmoeba makes it ridiculously powerful with audio routing.
